Anyone who's seen the constant mentions of THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN and THE BIONIC WOMAN around here probably won't be too surprised to find out I'm also rather keen on CHARLIE'S ANGELS.

Regular readers (ha! like there's any of those since i'm not even a regular poster) also won't be too surprised that I approached the recent comic book mini-series from - again - Dynamite with a bit of trepidation.

So, does this one belong up there with THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN: SEASON SIX and WONDER WOMAN '77 MEETS THE BIONIC WOMAN or down with, well, the rest of their seventies TV series continuations?

Well...it's not too bad, to be honest.

It takes place somewhere in or shortly after the first season, when the Angel team is made up of the classic trio of Sabrina (played by Kate Jackson in the series), Kelly (Jaclyn Smith), and Jill (Farrah Fawcett, then known as Farrah Fawcett-Majors as she was married to the bionic man himself, Lee Majors, at the time).

As befits a comic where little things like budgets and locations aren't an issue, this one takes the Angels on case around the world, getting them into some foreign intrigue and dealing with a threat to President Jimmy Carter's life.

I have to say (again) that I'm no fan of the modern, stylized (cartoony) art in general and between that and Dynamite apparently not having the license to do better likenesses it was sometimes hard to tell Kelly and Sabrina apart at first glance. There were also a couple of small 'mistakes' regarding Angel canon and continuity that most folks probably wouldn't think anything about.

But, those nits aside, it was actually kind-of fun. Moved fast despite a lot of backtracking to remind people of what happened in previous issues. Characterizations (particularly Bosley's concern over the budget) were well done. Not perfect but not a bad effort at all.

I'd give it four-and-a-half out of six Angels.

BTW - Dynamite has a CHARLIE'S ANGELS VS. THE BIONIC WOMAN series from a different creative team scheduled to hit the stands this summer. Odds are I'll have something to say about it here, as well as the upcoming CHARLIE'S ANGELS film.

BTW2 - here's a 'virgin' variant cover for the upcoming series. Two things - 1) without the title I would never guess this was supposed to have anything to do with the Angels or with the Bionic Woman, and B) there's still a tiny little 'TM' visible just about dead center near the top that would be with the Charlie's Angels logo on the regular cover. Wonder if it'll hit the stands with that?
